History

In 2008, the BC OCPP published the first oral cancer screening guidelines: Guideline for the Early Detection of Oral Cancer in British Columbia. In addressing the need for early detection, providing access to the underserved population.  Since then, the BC OCPP has initiated various satellite outpatient clinics in the community.  BC OCPP has been serving our communities in the past through their clinical services and research carried out at BC Cancer Agency (Vancouver), Fraser Valley Cancer Centre, and the Vancouver General Hospital.  In 2016, the Next Gen Dyplasia Clinics were established, in an attempt to develop a strategy to improve access by providing expert care.  These clinics, located at UBC and at the Pacific Oral Health Centre, are community-focused providing selective access and priority to patients at high risk or with signs and symptoms of oral cancer: this initiative with the OCPP’s satellite clinics are an interface between the dento-medical community, pathology services and early interventional care.
